Barbara Casarez-Sanchez, born September 24, 1940.
Barbara Casarez-Sanchez, age 84, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord in the early hours of January 8, 2025. She is now free to fly amongst the angels in heaven and her soul will reign in the kingdom of heaven forever and ever.
Barbara was born on September 24, 1940, in Charlottesville, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents Warren V. Hopkins and Mabel A. Hopkins and a loving husband of 30 years Eli Casarez Sr. Barbara is survived by her husband Martin B. Sanchez of Charlottesville and five children, a daughter Debra Carver and Mark Woolfork of Charlottesville, son Thomas Martin and wife Gina of Kent Store, Va., son Eli Casarez Jr and wife Samantha of Charlottesville, daughter Cynthia Casarez and Jeff Hogan of Keswick, Va and son David Casarez and wife Tracy of Louisa, Va. Barbara also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren.
Barbara was a caring, hardworking, and empathetic woman. She enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, and knitting. Throughout her life she faced many obstacles but faced them with a steady calm that reverberated her inner strength. She traveled to many places throughout her life, always trying to make a home for her family. But in 1984 found solace in returning to her birthplace of Charlottesville Va. She was dedicated to working and made it a life goal to pass that on to whomever she came in contact with. She worked tirelessly well into her 80s and she always did this with a smile on her face. She always found peace and happiness in the simple things. She was generous not only by helping others but also by sharing her feelings with others. She was empowered and felt at ease in providing comfort to others in their time of need and sorrow. She will be dearly missed by many and leaves behind a legacy that will live on for generations to come.
The family will hold a visitation and viewing at 10 am on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Teague Funeral Service 2260 Ivy Road in Charlottesville, Va. immediately followed by a celebration of life for Barbara at 11 am to be officiated by Pastor Jimmy D. Temple. Following the service, Barbara will be taken to her final resting place at Holly Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to thank all the friends and family who have reached out and the staff of The Laurels of Charlottesville for their care and support. Barbara has been called to take her place in the garden of God in heaven forever.
