Betty Morris Payne

Betty Morris Payne 82 of Troy went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, September 13, 2024 in the Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born January 16, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Ludie and William Edward Morris. She is also preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law, Ricky Mundie, brother, Malcolm Morris, sisters, Elizabeth Morris, Delma Buchannan, and Lena Sprouse.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Curtis Payne of Troy; daughters, Kim Morris (Ray), Teresa Davis (Phil)of Troy; grandchildren, Ryan Morris of Stanardsville, Kristen Burke of Charlottesville, Justin Morris of Holly Springs NC, Justin Mundie of Gordonsville, Kaitlyn Howard of Palmyra, Hunter Morris of Crozet, Rebecca Hoover of Troy; a sister Eunice Gibson of Palmyra, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews family and friends.

Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her love was deep, and she never withheld anything from anyone. Betty shared her beautiful smile with all those she met. She loved taking care of her customers who she considered friends at EW Thomas Grocery in Palmyra where she worked for 19 years until her retirement in 2007. Betty left an incredible legacy of love for her Lord and family to all that knew her.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital for all of the love and care they provided during Betty’s recent illness. They also want to thank Dr Katherine Jaffe at University Physicians for the loving care she provided for many years.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 pm Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville with interment in Bybee Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service 11 am to 12 pm at the funeral home. Following the interment the family will have a time of food and fellowship at Ray and Kim’s home.
