Mary Louise Caretti

July 13, 1959 - September 26, 2024

Mary Louise Caretti, of Gordonsville, VA, daughter of Gertrude S. Caretti (deceased) and Louis F Caretti (deceased), passed away on September 26, 2024 at UVA Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA at the age of 65.Mary was born in Arlington, VA. She graduated from Layton Hall Elementary School, Sydney Lanier Junior High School and Fairfax High School ’77 all in Fairfax, VA. Mary graduated from Virginia Tech ’81 majoring in psychology. She loved watching and following Va Tech’s football team! Go Hokies! Following graduation, Mary began a lifelong career with AT&T as a Project Manager working in Washington, D.C., Oakton, VA and Atlanta, GA. Mary loved living in GA. She enjoyed a fun social life with her boat dock mates on Lake Lanier. It was a difficult decision for her to move back to VA to be near her sister when her health issues began to escalate.Mary was involved in many sports, starting with the Fairfax Police Youth Club playing soccer, kayaking and competitive bowling in GA where she won many awards. Mary was also very talented with multiple crafts. She made beautiful decorative boxes and stained glass. She recently undertook major knitting projects in the past few years, making winter scarfs for all of her family members.Mary is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Gertrude and father Louis; her grandparents Joseph and Catherine Strishock and Augustine and Joseph Caretti; her much loved uncle and godfather, Anthony Kapeluch; her niece Jessica Caretti; her cousin Russell Miller and many aunts and uncles. Mary is survived by her much loved and faithful dog, Molly; her sister Karen (Rick), her sister Barbara (Brian), her brother Ramon (Cecilia); her Aunt Betty Kapeluch and cousin Gregory Kapeluch (RoseAnne) and cousin Patty Otero.A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Comforter Catholic Church at 208 E. Jefferson Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902 by Very Reverend Joseph Mary Lukyamuzi at 10am October 19, 2024, Saturday. Street parking is available. A luncheon reception will follow the service in the lower level of the church. All are welcome.Burial will be privately held for family members at Fairfax Memorial Park, Fairfax, VA at a later date.The family wishes to thank Very Reverend Joseph Mary Lukyamuzi, Holy Comforters’ prayer group, all of Mary’s dear friends and neighbors, and all the numerous doctors, PA’s, and nurses who have cared for Mary over the years. Mary fought an amazing fight with a strong will and a never ending positive attitude to overcome every medical issue that came to her. She had more than her fair share which she always handled with grace and courage. She will be missed.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s name to Holy Comforter Catholic Church, 208 E.
