Milton Franklin Breeden
Milton Franklin Breeden of Advance Mills passed away Jan. 22, 2026, at the age of 94. Milton was born July 14, 1931, in Kinderhook and was raised there by his late parents, Carrie Beasley Breeden and Sherman Cover Breeden. He was predeceased by his brothers Marvin Breeden, Melvin Breeden, and Myron Breeden, and his sister Arlene Samuels.
Milton is survived by his son, Barkley Harlow Breeden and his wife Heather; and his daughter, Betsy Breeden Thompson and her husband, Gary. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Joshua William Breeden, his mother Sandra Breeden, and his wife, Aasimah; Carrie Mae Thompson; Hunter Blake Breeden and his wife, Karlee; and Logan Allan Thompson and his wife, Casey. And he is survived by three great grandchildren—Zoya, Ari, and Samuel—with another one on the way. Milton is survived by his brother-in-law, William R. Harlowe Jr., as well, along with a host of other family members and close friends who greatly enriched his life.
Milton worked on his family farm until 1952, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1954 and three years later, married his late wife, Betty Harlow Breeden, with whom he had two children. Milton retired early from his career as a finance manager at a Charlottesville car dealership due to health problems and spent the next years of his life supporting his wife Betty and their children. Milton enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Following Betty’s unexpected passing in 2003, Milton continued to maintain strong connections with friends and family. He relished keeping in touch with his loved ones and happily called to talk about the weather, to trade gossip, and to listen without judgement. He enjoyed sweets and never turned down the opportunity to eat one. Milton was an avid watcher of his favorite shows and one could always find him watching UVA sports, Matlock, Perry Mason, Walker-Texas Ranger, and some veterinary shows.
He enjoyed attending and receiving visits from his church family at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville. His faith in God shaped who he was, helping him find quiet strength, steady wisdom, and compassion for everyone he encountered.
Visitation is Thurs., Jan 29 at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Baptist Church, with a service to follow at 12 p.m. Preddy Funeral Home in Madison is assisting the family with arrangements.
