George Bailey Nicholson

George Bailey Nicholson, 81 of Leon, Va., passed away on April 28th, 2026, at Countryside Nursing Home in Pratts, Va. He was born on January 21, 1945, to the late Richard Bailey Nicholson and Sarah Catherine Woodward Nicholson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Julie Nicholson Johnson.

George was also known as Nukes by so many. He was widely recognized for his generous nature and the kindness he extended to everyone. George cherished spending time with his family and friends and was always ready to lend a hand. He worked hard as a talented brick, block, and rock mason, taught at an early age by his father. His work spanned numerous schools in Northern Virginia, banks in Orange and Culpeper, and many homes in surrounding counties. He was a gifted, self-taught mandolin and guitar player, and he loved sharing music with family and friends. He found great joy in the outdoors. George also enjoyed hiking and playing music with his lifelong friend, Grant Colby. George truly valued being with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy Bell Nicholson; daughters, Cathy Bell Chappell and husband Richard Chappell, and Patty Ann Smith and husband, Jerry Smith, Jr.; brother, Sam Nicholson and wife Lois Nicholson; sister, Florence Morgan; grandchildren, Cindy Fuller and husband Josh Fuller, Jr Chappell, Anna Smith, and John Smith; one great-grandchild, Brayden Woodward.

A funeral service will be at Thoroughfare Bible Church, 3823 Thoroughfare Road, Culpeper, VA 22701. Viewing will be from 11 to 12. Services will start at 12 on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
