Royce Boswell Utz

Royce Boswell Utz, 87, of Madison, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Dogwood Village in Orange, Va. He was born on June 16, 1939, to the late Granville Hollister Utz and Clara Ella Knight Utz. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Dare Carpenter Utz; brothers, Granville Hollister Utz, Jr. and James Tolliver Utz; sisters, Betty Jones Duffer, Cherie Dowden, and Charlotte Brooking. He was a graduate of Madison County High School. He worked at Comdial and retired from the federal government. He is survived by his sister, Emily Utz Amos; brother, Coleman Utz; wife, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends. The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Dogwood Village for their love and care. A funeral service will be held at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison,on Saturday, August 22, at 11:00 AM, with Elder Gary Utz officiating. A private graveside service will follow. A graveside Masonic service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Preddy Funeral Home of Madison is handling the arrangements.
