Amos Yount
Amos V. Yount, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 12, 2026. Four years ago, Amos found Jesus, and from that moment on, his life was changed. Sunday mornings often found him watching a preaching service on television, growing in his faith and drawing closer to the Lord. His journey home to Heaven brings comfort in knowing that he is now at peace with his Savior. Amos is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Donna Mae Yount, the love of his life; his son, Steven Todd Yount, and daughter-in-law, Kelly; his grandson, Travis Yount; his daughter, Melissa Yount Shifflett, and son-in-law, Kenny; his grandson, Dylan Shifflett, and granddaughter-in-law, Taylor; his great-grandson, Keagan Dane Shifflett; and his sister, Loretta Zimmerman, of Orange, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos V. Yount, Sr., and Ida Yount; his brother, Donald Ray “Duck” Yount; and his sister, Betty Jean Yount. Amos had a wide variety of interests and lived a life full of stories, laughter, and memorable adventures. In his younger years, he broke racehorses for Marian Du Pont Scott, a unique experience that became part of his life's story. He loved his family dearly and was always ready for a family card game, where laughter and friendly competition were never far away. Amos enjoyed playing softball, fishing with good friends, and cheering on his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He was also a fan of Merle Haggard’s music. Known for always having a joke ready, Amos had a special way of making people smile and bringing laughter to those around him. Whether spending time with family, enjoying the outdoors, or sharing a good story, he created memories that will be treasured for years to come. Above all, Amos will be remembered for his love of family, his sense of humor, and the faith he found later in life. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his family and friends can find comfort in the memories they shared and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Piedmont for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided, making Amos’s final journey more peaceful and comfortable. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Graham Cemetery. Preddy’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
