Joanne Graves Sprouse
Joanne Graves Sprouse, age 82, of Charlottesville, VA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 surrounded by family and friends.
She was born on June 28, 1943 at the University of Virginia Hospital to the late Robert Nelson Graves and Elsie Aelise Graves. She grew up in Alberene, VA surrounded by her siblings, many cousins and other extended family. She met the love of her life, Roland Murford Sprouse, during a community softball game and enjoyed 26 years together while living in Charlottesville, VA.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Alice May Corbin.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Rhonda Sprouse Gray and husband Frank Gray. She is also survived by two siblings, Robert Lawrence Graves and Wanda Carol Price and numerous special nieces and nephews and countless friends.
A graduate of Albemarle High School, Joanne enjoyed a successful career of 46 years working in accounting at The National Legal Research Group.
She was a loving and genuine lady who loved her family and friends dearly. Her house became a gathering place for many who always enjoyed her infectious laugh and listening ear followed by a meal to feed the whole neighborhood. She was a lifetime caregiver, providing devoted care to countless family and friends. She willingly opened up her home to numerous people in need of a place to stay.
Joanne was a long time faithful member of Cherry Avenue Christian Church where she served the Lord in many areas including Sunday School teacher, Special Night Out, Vacation Bible School, working in the nursery as well as with the youth and countless other positions.
Her hobbies included visiting with family and friends, gardening, traveling and, of course, her love for her red birds and Elvis Presley.
The family wishes to offer a special thank you to Hospice of the Piedmont for the exceptional care they provided to Joanne and her family.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 10:00 am with a service following at 11:00 am at Cherry Avenue Christian Church, Charlottesville, VA. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held following all services at Cherry Avenue Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or Cherry Avenue Christian Church.
