John Reade Dunwody

John Reade Dunwody                                September 13, 2025 John Reade Dunwody, 74, of Madison, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on September 13, 2025. He was born August 22, 1951, in Radford, Virginia, to William M. Dunwody Jr. and Alice G. Dunwody. 
John is survived by his loving mother, Alice; his three brothers, William, James, and David (wife Norma); his daughter, Elizabeth (husband Todd); his son, John; and two grandchildren, Connor and Nolan, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by many other cherished family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William. 

John was a beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, friend, and a true mountain man at heart. He always felt most at home with the earth beneath his boots and the sky stretched wide above him. The mountains weren’t just a place he visited - they were a part of his soul.

Though we mourn the loss of him here on earth, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace, resting in the arms of the mountains he so dearly loved. His journey has come full circle - from the rugged trails of this life to the eternal peace of the next. His spirit will always remain with us. 

May John rest in peace among the mountains, where his spirit is free and his soul is home.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory.
