Melvin Lynn Douglas
Melvin Lynn Douglas 78 of Charlottesville went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, July 21, 2023 in Charlottesville. He was born on October 10, 1944 in Pensacola, Florida to the late Lurt Franklin Haney and Irene Frances Ryder Haney.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Brenda VanDyke Douglas, two daughters, Emily Douglas Breeden and Ashley Douglas Johnson and husband, Shane, one brother, Robert Haney and wife, Lewalta and one sister, Susan Haney Gross and husband, Andy, four grandchildren, Caleb Lee Marshall, Jacob Daniel Rose, Elliott Lynn Breeden and Lydia Scott Breeden along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Melvin proudly served in the United States Army during Vietnam as a member of the 101st Airborne Division “Screaming Eagles”. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and all-around outdoorsman. He was a member of the Woodsmill Hunt Club and a lifelong member of the Barboursville United Methodist Church. Most of all, Melvin loved his daughters and grandchildren, and shared his lifelong hobbies with them.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison conducted by Pastor Chip Geissler. The interment will follow in Holly Memorial Garden Cemetery in Charlottesville. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Madison.
