Robert Heaton Evans

February 22, 1939 - April 3, 2024

Robby McFarland Robert (Bob) Heaton Evans, 85, husband of the late Emily Eckman Evans of Fishersville, Virginia passed away in his home peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. Bob was born in Evanston, Illinois on February 22, 1939, a son of the late Anna Virginia (Heaton) and Robert Maurice Evans.

Bob grew up outside of Chicago and has fond memories of the area. During his high school years his family moved to Meadville, Pennsylvania where he became the star of the basketball team, nicknamed ‘Big Red’ because of his height and red hair.  He attended Georgetown University for two years where he took great pride in playing on their basketball team. Then Bob returned to Meadville and where he played basketball and received his bachelor’s degree in history at Allegheny College. Bob met Emily at Allegheny during his senior year, and they married on June 2, 1962.

Before moving to Virginia in 1971, Bob worked for Gould, Inc. in sales while living in Ohio and Indiana. Later, Bob became a Regional Sales Manager for Gould and could pick anywhere he wanted to live on the East Coast. Bob and Emily settled in Waynesboro, Virginia.  After many years on Davis Road, they decided to build their beloved home with the best view of the Blue Ridge Mountains on Hickory Hill Lane in Fishersville and moved there in 1979. This has been home ever since, and Bob wanted nothing more than to spend his entire life there. Gould was acquired by MagneTek and Bob continued to work for them until he retired in 2001 at age 62.

Bob and Emily were married for 57 years, Bob is survived by two daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, and one great grandchild: Megan Evans McFarland, husband Jerry McFarland, daughter Ellie McFarland Smith and husband Liam Smith and granddaughter, Constance Smith, and sons Robby and Evan of Damascus, Maryland; Scott Maurice Evans, wife Elizabeth  (Marlowe) Evans and daughters, Ryleigh and Elle of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; Stacey Virginia Evans and husband John Grant of Charlottesville, Virginia;  Robert Maurice Evans, wife Lindsay (Cook) Evans and children, Thomas, Emily Virginia, Oliver, and Delilah of Seattle, Washington.  Bob is also survived by his brothers Lee Evans, wife Nancy, of Florida; Greg Evans, of Georgia; and Loren Evans, wife Colleen of Delaware. 

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesboro on Thursday, April 18th, at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the church then a burial service at Augusta Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Scott Evans, Rob Evans, Jerry McFarland, Robby McFarland, Thomas Evans and Oliver Evans.
