Agnes Branham Shifflett

On August 25, 2023, at the age of 99, Agnes Branham Shifflett went home to be with the Lord peacefully while surrounded by family at Choice Health nursing home in Stanardsville, Virginia. A very loved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mamie Branham, 3 brothers and 2 sisters, husband, Harold Clifford Shifflett, daughter, Betty Jane Shifflett, granddaughter, Lara Brooking, son-in-law Bob Colvin, and special friend, Jerry Lee.

She is survived by her sister, Peggy Branham, children Ashby Shifflett(Carolyn), Joyce Colvin, Randy Shifflett(Linda), Charles Shifflett(Carol), Wayne Shifflett(Linda), Pat Shifflett, 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Agnes was employed by the Silk Mill during WW2 and had a hand in making military parachutes. She ended her career making parts for military ships at Sperry Marine. You could find her on the weekends selling her hand made items at many local festivals, shows and in her front yard. She was happiest preparing food for her huge family in her tiny kitchen which was overflowing with loved ones for holidays and special occasions.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Gordonsville Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM, the service at 11:00 AM with graveside following at Maplewood Cemetery.
