Alan David Burricks
Alan Burricks was born on January 5th, 1964 in Cape Town, South Africa to his mother Angela and father Harold. Although she didn’t have much, his mother worked hard to create an environment of love, warmth, and laughter for him and his siblings. At school he was known for his free-spirited sense of humor and pranks with his friends. After receiving the Lord at the age of 14, he immediately consecrated to live a life of service to Him. When he met Lorrette at a church youth gathering, it was love at first sight.Upon finishing Bible school, he drove his car and the 20 bucks he had in his pocket up to Rundu, Namibia to begin his missionary career. There Alan and his now wife, Lorrette, learned to live a life of faith as they resided on the banks of the Okavango river, frequently encountering snakes, hippos, and crocodiles all while growing their own family with the births of Ashley, Celeste, and Lisa. For 30 years (1986-2016) Alan and Lorrette would continue to serve the Lord in Namibia, Madagascar, and North Africa. After two years in Cape Town, in 2019 the Lord led them to live as members of the Body in Charlottesville, VA in the USA. In Charlottesville, he started his own business as a contractor - loving the Lord, loving his family, and loving all people. He quickly became beloved throughout the Charlottesville community as not only a skilled and reliable worker, but a compassionate, kind, and joyful presence. While generous with his time spent serving and helping others, he always reserved time for his family. One of his lifetime mottos was, “life is too short not to have fun,” and he was always willing to go on spontaneous adventures to make memories with those he loved, especially his grandchildren. His selflessness, gentleness, and joyfulness will be deeply missed by us and all who knew him. While we deeply mourn his passing, we feel unspeakably honored and blessed to have had him as our husband and father. He followed the Lord faithfully, finished his course in victory, and now is resting with his Father.A a memorial service for Alan will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:30 PM at CrossLife Community Church, 1410 Old Brook Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
