Alberta Hunter Houchens

Alberta Hunter Houchens 85 of Mineral passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024 in the Martha Jefferson Hospital. She was born February 9, 1939 in Louisa County and was the daughter of the late Albert and Paulena Qushiberry Hunter. She is also preceded in death by her husband, John William Houchens; a daughter, Thelma Hunter; two sons, Aaron and Timothy Houchens; two brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by four daughters, Patricia Syrkes of Louisa, Gladys Coles and husband Clifton of Bumpass, Connie Coles and husband Michael of Charlottesville, Cynthia Walker of Fluvanna; five sons, George Houchens of Mineral, Lawrence Hunter and wife Lisa of Louisa, John Houchens and wife Vandella of Mineral, Venfert Houchens of Charlottesville, Reggie Houchens of Mineral; brothers, James Jackson of Lothian, MD and Walter Hunter of Louisa; forty five grandchildren and seventy three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday, April 5, 2024 at Rising Sun Baptist Church, 6829 Fredericks Hall Road, Mineral, Virginia, 23117 conducted by Pastor Walter L. Pleasant Jr. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

The interment will be in the Qushiberry Family Cemetery.

Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville is assisting the family with arrangements.
