Andrew Joseph Murphy

September 19, 1928 - October 20, 2024

Andrew J. Murphy, Jr., of Crozet Virginia passed away on October 20, 2024, with his loving wife by his side after a short illness at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He was 96 years old. Andy graduated from Bishop England Catholic High School in Charleston, South Carolina, served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean War. He continued to serve his country by working for the US government as an Electrical Engineer, maintaining Navy ships. Andy is predeceased by his parents, Margaret Dukes and Andrew Joseph Murphy, Sr., a brother, Thomas, his eldest son, Mitchell, his only daughter, Shannon and his first wife, Marilyn.Upon retirement, Andy met the love of his life, Darlene Murphy and they were married in January 2007. He always said, “she is the most beautiful woman, and I love her more than anything in this world.” Andy touched the lives of so many with his kindness, generosity, love and lifelong faith but Darlene was his rock and love of his life.He is survived by his adoring wife, Darlene Murphy; two stepsons, Jay Shively, his wife, Mary and their children Alyssa and Jacob of Goochland, VA; Ken Shively, his wife Jamie and their daughter, Katherine of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; his niece, Joan Cavanagh, her children, Sean and Annie; and a very special God-daughter, Mary Garwood and her husband, Mark who he adored and was incredibly grateful to have had in his life. Family was the most important thing to Andy and he adored his stepchildren and grandchildren as if they were his own.Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at Mt.
