Beverly Claire Herndon Head

Beverly Claire Herndon Head, 69 of Charlottesville, Virginia died peacefully at her home on August 24, 2024. 

Beverly was born on August 1, 1955 in Gordonsville, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents William Seldon Herndon and Joyce Coiner Herndon and a grandson, Tyler Austin Bunyea. 

Beverly is survived by her daughter Sarah and her husband Marshall of Stanardsville, Va. Her grandchildren William, Mason and Lily Bunyea of Stanardsville, Va. Her brother Steven Herndon and his wife Laurie of Orange, Va. Other survivors include nephews Christopher Herndon (Beth), Patrick Herndon (Brittany), great nephews Connon, Alex and Sam Herndon, a great niece Madison Herndon all of Orange, Va. and a special aunt; Ann Marie Nygaard of Culpeper, Va. Beverly also leaves behind numerous extended family members, friends and a supportive Church family. 

Beverly was a 1973 graduate of Orange County High school in Orange, Va., and a 1977, graduate of Madison College in Harrisonburg, Va. where she received her Bachelors of Elementary Education. Upon graduation Beverly was employed by the Greene County Public School System for 9 years as a 2nd grade teacher. The next 21 years she was employed by the Orange County Public School System and taught both 2nd and 3rd grades at Gordon Barbour Elementary School until her retirement in 2008. After her retirement, Beverly continued to touch the lives of numerous children as a substitute teacher until her passing. 

Beverly was a devout UVA fan, a lover of all beaches and an active member of her church, Ivy Creek United Methodist Church in Charlottesville, Va., where she served on the worship committee, nursing home committee and bereavement committee. She was active in the PACEM and IMPACT missions of the church, a member of the Sarah’s Circle women’s ministry, and an avid donor for the Ivy Creek School, Angel Tree, and Hope House. 

Most of all Beverly loved her family more than life itself. Her daughter and grandchildren were her life and she will be greatly missed by all of them. 

Family Night will be held on Wednesday, August 28th at Preddy’s Funeral Home in Gordonsville, Va. from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29th at 11 AM at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church, 674 Woodlands Road, Charlottesville, Va. 22901 with a reception to follow immediately after. Graveside will be held at 3 PM later that day at Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville, Va. 

Although Beverly will be missed greatly, her generous spirit and legacy of love will live on.
