Casper Knight
Casper Knight, 100 of Ruckersville, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at his home. Casper was a steadfast, hardworking man of few words. Casper served his country in WWII as an MP in the Army in China, Burma and India. He returned home to Greene County where he married, built a home, raised a family, and worked until retirement age at Sperry Marine in Charlottesville VA. In retirement he enjoyed many card tournaments and chats on Main Street Stanardsville and was a hell of a gardener.
He was born on April 8, 1923 to the late Wilbur Haywood Knight and Allie Morris Knight. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Corine Francis Knight, his son, John Casper Knight Jr. and his daughter, Carolyn Faye Gentry as well as brothers Jesse, Haywood, Parker, Marvin, Lindsey, Lyman, Wess, Glenwood and sisters Lizzie, Helen, Eunice, Lelia. He is survived by his daughter Tammy K. Gilbert and husband Greg, of Ruckersville; son, Alvis Wayne Knight and wife Patsy of Quinque; eight grandchildren: Gina Graham (Chad), Kim Shifflett (Glenn), Douglas Gentry (Lisa), Ashley Ferris (Randy), Alvis Knight Jr, John Knight III, Tonya Smith, Kelli Gilbert and thirteen great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brooke Bostic, Nurse Julie and Felicia with Medi Home Hospice for their care and kindness in his final months.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with Pastor Eddie Deane and Ken Gilbert officiating. Interment will be in Holly Memorial Gardens in Charlottesville, VA. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home on Friday.
