Clyde M. Henkel

November 3, 1942 - March 13, 2024

Clyde Moffett Henkel, age 81, of Waynesboro, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Born November 3, 1942, he was the son of the late John R. Henkel and Lily Mozelle Henkel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard C. Henkel; niece, Shri Henkel; and nephew, Joel Day.

Clyde is survived by his son, Brian H. Henkel; daughter, Amanda L. Hill and her husband, Brandon; sister, Sylvia Straughan; grandchildren, Amelia Henkel, Jaylyn Hill, Grant Hill, and Graydon Hill; a niece, Denise Crosson; and a nephew, Chris Henkel.

Clyde was a graduate of Bridgewater College where he earned a BA in History and Political Science. He also earned a JD from Washington and Lee University where he was awarded the US Law Week prize in 1973. He retired from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1989 after 27 years of service.

Clyde's four grandchildren were the dearest to him. He loved to play bridge and spend time outdoors with family. He dedicated his life to serving God and others. His kind heart always found a way to encourage others, especially those in need. A man of deep faith, Clyde was a dedicated member of Raphine Christian Church.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the entire staff of Hospice of the Piedmont for the excellent care given to Clyde at the end of his life.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Raphine Christian Church, 5131 Lee Jackson Hwy, Greenville, VA 24440. Pastor John Ward will be officiating.
