Dale Conway Hamilton

September 1, 1925 - January 24, 2024

Born September 1, 1925, in Port Norfolk, Virginia, Dale Conway Hamilton Sr., son of Marvin Gaylaird and Georgia Alice Parker Hamilton, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lula Maye, his siblings Cleo Phelps, Parker Hamilton, Gaylaird Hamilton, Kirkland Hamilton, and Leonard Hamilton. He is survived by his children Dale Hamilton Jr., Alan Hamilton, Jean Mastrogiovanni, Anne Hamilton, Ruth Szucs, and their spouses, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He attended Emory and Henry College, North Carolina State University, and graduated from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia where he decided to start his family and career.

He worked for Stainback and Scribner architectural firm before starting his firm, Dale Hamilton and Associates. He retired after 50 years of architectural work.

He was active in evangelism as a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Charlottesville, serving as a dedicated Sunday school teacher, a pulpit supply preacher, Deacon emeritus, former President of the Baptist Brotherhood, and leading many revivals at Baptist churches. He was the oldest member and last World War II veteran at First Baptist Church of Charlottesville.

As part of his calling from Christ, he was passionate about working with churches and designing new and renovated spaces for them.

A visitation for friends and family will be held at First Baptist Church of Charlottesville, 735 Park Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902 from 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM on January 30, 2024, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM and a reception at 3:00 PM. A private interment will be held at a later date.
