Daniel A. Kile of Charlottesville, VA, was born December 31,1937 in Manhattan, New York City, the third son of the late Thomas Jolly Kile and Vera Nettie Schaefer, and died in Charlottesville, VA in the early hours of July 11, 2023.

He was also preceded in death by son, Brett David Kile and older brother Thomas J. Kile Jr of Augusta,GA.

Dan is survived by wife Shirley Durham Kile; daughters, Laurie B. Kile MD; Celeste Kile Petersen and her husband Douglas and their children Daniel Petersen and wife Catherine, and Eric Petersen. He is also survived by a brother Fred C. Kile and wife Sally, of Danbury, CT, and their children James C. Kile and wife Nancy, children Samantha and Benjamin; Nancy Kile Halstead and husband Clinton, children Kathryn and Theresa Persico; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Kile and nieces Trudi and Elizabeth Kile.

Dan's family moved to New Fairfield, CT when Dan was about eight where he attended local schools. After the death of his father they moved to Danbury, CT. Dan attended the University of Connecticut earning a BS in Accounting (1959) and a Law Degree (1962) from UConn Law School. While in school he was in ROTC and a member of the Pershing Rifles. Upon graduation Dan entered the Army, retiring after twenty-seven and a half years. Among his assignments were Berlin, Germany, Korea, the Pentagon, The JAG School,Charlottesville, VA and George Washington University (1974) where he earned a Masters of Law.

Dan was a joyful person, a true friend always ready to help. He was inquisitive, trying a different interest each military move. He loved baseball and was deeply into genealogy research.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the Teague Funeral Home Chapel followed by interment at Monticello Memory Gardens. Afterwards a reception will be held at Dan's home in Greenbrier.
