David Charles Merchant
David Charles Merchant, 11 Mill Ridge Court, Stanardsville VA passed away on July 15 in his home. He was 70 years old.
David was born on December 29th, 1953 to Charles Edward and Marylouise (Tice) Merchant and grew up in Greenville PA. In January 1972 he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served numerous positions within the Military Intelligence community culminating in his promotion to Sergeant Major (SGM). SGM Merchant retired from active duty in January 1995. After retirement SGM Merchant attained his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP), continued working as a U.S. Army Contractor for 3 years and then another 14 years as a U.S. Department of Army Civilian Intelligence Analyst.
In addition to membership in the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars(VFW), SGM Merchant was also a member of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of Virginia, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Royal Arch Mason and a Shriner.
SGM Merchant is preceded in death by both his parents, his brother William and his daughter Rebecca. He is survived by his sister Linda, his sons Christopher(wife-Jean) and David(wife-Tabatha), his daughter Lisa and five grandchildren: Katherine, Hannah, Savannah, Mary and his grandson Isaac.
SGM Merchant will be laid to rest at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville PA,
