David Michael "Mike" Meade
David Michael “Mike” Meade, 73, of Ruckersville departed this life on Thursday November 30th, 2023 at the University of Virginia hospital surrounded by family.
Born May 10, 1950 in Washington D.C. He was the son of the late Calvin Jackson “Jack” Meade and Lorraine “Oshie” Snow Meade. Mike was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Nevaeh Faith Gentry and great granddaughter Emma Raine Gentry.
Mike was retired from the University of Virginia Facilities Management. Prior to his employment at UVA Mike spent most of his career as a “drywall man”. Mike was always a fishing and hunting enthusiast. Always looking forward to his annual week of fishing with his brother Calvin, other family members and closest friends at the Bull Pasture River. The last couple of years Mike began making log cabins and bird houses to give to family.
Mike would get so excited when the great grandchildren would come visit and shortly after he would say “Okay ain’t it time for y’all to go home now?!”
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Meade of 50 years. Three children, Pam Lawson, Chastity Hall (Jeff) and David Meade Jr., six special granddaughters, Ashley Lawson, Katlyn Gentry (Jordan), Rachel Woolford (Keegan), Hannah Faris (Tommy), Emily Faris (Brandon) and Whitney Lawson. Four special great grandsons and one special great granddaughter.
Surviving siblings are Calvin Meade (Darlene), Sheree Frazier (Michael), Barry Meade, Chris Meade, and April Brown (Glen). Also surviving are many nephews, nieces as well as many extended family and friends.
A special thanks to Mike’s sisters, Sheree and April, who dedicated so much time to Mike while in hospital for over a month. Special thanks to Sam, other UVA staff members and Dorothy at the Laurels for taking such special care of Mike. Thank you to Mike’s friends Mac and Al who visited every day, JB and Leatha Harlow, the Durrer family, and Jesse Nemo.
In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105) in honor of great granddaughter, Oaklee Gentry.
