Delores Mae Lee

June 9, 1928 - January 9, 2025

Delores (Dodie) Mae Lee, 96, passed away January 9, 2025. Born June 9, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN to Colonel Clarence Jess Lee and Dorothy Sanneman Lee.

Dodie grew up in Owatonna, MN, and graduated from Minnesota State University Mankato in 1950. She taught school in ID, CO, MT, NV and AZ. Before moving to Waynesboro in 2017 to be close to her daughter, she lived in Sparks, NV for 17 years. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Dodie loved nothing more than driving on a long road trip across her beloved West, and always had a curiosity of what lies beyond the horizon in the vastness of the western landscape. She loved living in many different towns and states— from the 1940’s through her arrival in Waynesboro, she was always up for adventure in new phases of her life. Dodie was also an avid golfer. She loved spending time with family and her many, many friends from all across the U.S. She was a social butterfly and when she made a friend, they were friends for life. Birdwatching was also a favorite hobby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Robert Lee Horman, brother Robert E. Lee, nieces Janet Ruth Lee and Sally Lee Maschke & her husband Bob Maschke.

Dodie is survived by daughter Melissa Engstrom (Harold), grandsons Ryan Beaver (Mandy), Justin Beaver (Angelo Maddox), granddaughters Holly Engstrom (Matt McGovern), Cassandra Engstrom Kiracofe (Karius), and 7 great grandchildren Jacob, Maddie, Lorelei, Gypsy, Malachi, Nora and Kaya.
Also surviving are her sister-in-law Dorothy Eastling Lee, nephew Thomas Lee and his 3 sons, Jason, Joshua and Jordan all of MN.

Cremation was in charge of McDow Funeral Home. Her ashes will be scattered in her beloved Sierra Nevada Mountains. No services will be held.
