Elanor Abigail Bishop

August 29, 1941 - December 11, 2023

Eleanor Abigail Bishop (Abbie), 83, died on December 11, 2023, at her home in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Born on August 29, 1941, in Fort Benning, Georgia, she was the daughter of Russell and Helen Nash. She grew up in Georgia, Panama, and New Mexico. She attended the University of New Mexico, and worked for the National Bureau of Standards and Albemarle public schools. A mutual friend introduced her to Lowell Bishop in early 1963 and they were soon married in January of 1964. Abbie was devoted to her family, friends, and faith. She cherished the opportunity to serve others and her church, taking on numerous roles, including altar guild, vestry, Sunday school teacher, and a mission trip to Panama. She was also a member of the Order of Julian Norwich. Abbie enjoyed cooking, knitting, and quilting, and she shared her talents with others in many ways, from preparing meals for the homeless to creating blankets for friends.

Abbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years. She is survived by two sons, Gregory (Carmen) of Fairfax, VA, and David (Kelley) of Chambersburg, PA, one daughter, Margaret Carpenter (Thomas) of Colorado Springs, CO, and grandchildren Megan, Matthew, Brendan and Elizabeth Bishop, and Austin, Sarah, and Jeremy Carpenter.

Services will be held Saturday, December 30, at 1:00 PM, Episcopal Church of Our Savior, Charlottesville, VA, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
