Elizabeth Maxine Roper

Elizabeth Maxine Roper died on July 6, 2024, at the age of 88. Maxine passed peacefully at Dogwood Village of the Orange County Nursing Home.

Maxine was born October 20, 1935, in Locust Dale, VA. to the late Joseph Reid Jones and Nannie Elizabeth Williams. She grew up in Orange VA.

Maxine was a gentle soul who loved her family. She worked hard and enjoyed her family business ROPER KENNELS along with her husband and sons. Together they bred, raised, and trained a National Field Trail Champion “ Navajo Dude”. She also loved Jeff Gordon and adored Elvis Presley.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Porter Reed Roper and two sons Alan Reed Roper and Mark Wayne Roper, her twin brother Robert Manley Jones, Joseph R. Jones (Marguerite), James B. Jones (Betty), George M. Jones (Barbra) and Jeanie Sprouse Jones.

She is survived by her sisters Mary Jones Frazier, Debbie B. Wilkins, Janet J. Hickman (Randy), Tracy J. Smith (Jim).

Her brothers Walter R. Jones (Pam), and Bruce Jones (Janet), Sister-In-Law Sarah C. Jones, Grandchildren Mark Wayne Roper Jr. and Cheyenne Leigh Pate, and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Graham Cemetery with Bruce Jones officiating. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family with arrangements.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Johnathan Evans and Dogwood Village of Orange County for their love and kindness given to dear Maxine. We would also like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont.
