Elva McLean

December 15, 1931 - June 26, 2023

Elva McLean died in Charlottesville, Va., on June 26, 2023 following a lengthy illness. She was born December 15, 1931 in Richmond, Va., to John and Ethel Clodfelter. She was a 1950 graduate of Manchester High School, where she was a cheerleader and played field hockey.

In 1955 Elva married Donald Earl McLean. The couple lived in Virginia and Missouri, raising four children: Donald Earl, Jr., Susan Faye, John Norman, and Ruth Anne

Mrs. McLean was a homemaker then worked in telecommunications at Dupont. She was actively involved in several charitable activities well into her later years, including Habitat for Humanity and SPCA, as well as relief projects for Native Americans and those in the Appalachians. A religious woman, she was active in churches and rarely missed a Sunday service.

Elva was an excellent cook and seamstress. She had a love for singing and all types of music. She enjoyed raising not only her children, but also numerous dogs and cats. She is survived by a brother, Winston; her four children; a son-in-law, Scott Braden; and two daughters-in-law, Nancy McLean and Sheila McLean. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her brother, Dick; and sister, Louise.

Mrs. McLean will be buried in a private ceremony for family and relatives.
