Ethel Marie "Betty" Capers, 89 years old, was born June 11, 1934, to the late Quintus Douglas and Bessie Johnson Douglas of Cobham, VA.

She was married to the late Deacon Hurndon Ethelbert Capers on August 9, 1980. God Blessed their union for 39 years.

Her Earthly Journey Begins

Betty wore many hats during her lifetime, but Caregiver suited her Best. From a young age she was employed to take care of the homes and children of others. She spent a short time at the local chicken spot which allowed her to literally feed her family, although there was a thought that they might sprout wings from eating so much of it. She was employed by Liberty Fabrics in Gordonsville, VA, and Doubleday book factory in Orange, VA, where she made lasting friendships. Before retiring, she spent her lasting days in the workforce house sitting at Cismont Manor Farm in Keswick, VA, for the Wheeler Family, and housekeeping for Mrs. McLucas. Both families adored her. She then followed Mrs. McLucas to the Gordon House as her private care giver until she transitioned. During that tenure, she received her PCA license and continued to work at the Gordon House until she retired.

Deaconess Capers joined Union Baptist Church in Gordonsville, VA, where she met her husband while serving on the Usher Board. They were inducted as Deacon and Deaconess where they served many years. When her spirit was no longer filled there, she found a new spiritual home at Journey Church Central Virginia, where she served as a greeter and continued her bible studies until her last days.
