George A. Dillard, Sr.

July 7, 1938 - January 12, 2024

George A. Dillard Sr. eighty-seven (87) passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024, at the Laurels of Charlottesville, unit one (1). He was born on July 7, 1936, in Batesville, Virginia, the son of Percy Joe Dillard and Minnie Bell Fisher Dillard who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Barkley, Joe Dillard, Samuel Dillard, Sarah “Josephine” Powell, Edna White, Charles Dillard Sr., Lucy Allen, and Anna “Catherine” Dillard.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Maxine Thomas Dillard, sons George A. Dillard Jr. (Setour), Troy, Virginia, Percy J. Dillard (Sonja), Waynesboro, Virginia; daughters, Anita D. Smith (Ralph) Killeen, Texas; Teresa D. Shelton (Howard), Gum Springs, Virginia; Veronica Dillard, Gina D. Austin, Henrico, Virginia; Kim Dillard, Kansas City, Kansas; Angela T. Jackson (Doug), of Snellville, Georgia, one sister Jean Barbour, Charlottesville, Virginia.

He was the owner of Dillard Construction Company and served Charlottesville and the surrounding counties with building and home improvements for over 40 (forty) years. He was the beloved grandfather and great-grandfather, also known as “Big Daddy,” to a host of grandchildren. He was also loved by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 one hour (10 a.m.) before the funeral service, which begins at 11:00 a.m. in the Hill & Wood Chapel, Charlottesville and is officiated by Superintendent William T. Coles, Sr. Interment will be at Holly Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3251 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
