George Watson Kail

- January 4, 2024

George Watson Kail, 81, of Louisa, Virgina, died on January 4, 2024. He was born October 6, 1942, to the late Claude T. Kail and Louise S. Kail. George was the second youngest of four siblings, Claude Kail, Jr., Kemper Kail, and Barbara Jean Kail.

George grew up near Hatton Ferry in Buckingham County and had graduated from Buckingham Central High School.

Following high school, George worked for Smith Chevrolet while attending General Motors Fisher Body Repair School.

During this period in his life, he met the love of his life, Carole Bourne.  The two married in 1964, briefly residing in Scottsville before settling into Carole’s hometown in Louisa.  George started working in Carole’s family general store, B&R Market, and quickly became a fixture of life in the Oakland community.  George spent 56 years running the store, along the way amassing a large number of friends who would stop by daily to check in, have lunch, and tell stories.  While running the store, George also spent ten years working as Maintenance Supervisor at Blue Ridge Shores.

George was a charter member of the Trevilians Volunteer Fire Department.  George was one of a kind with a larger-than-life personality, a man who never met a stranger, and was loved and respected by many.  In his spare time George enjoyed hunting, fishing, repairing older cars, woodworking, and making handmade knives.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carole; his son and daughter-in-law, George Allen and Amy; and his beloved granddaughters, Lindsy Diane and Bailey Sue.

A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery.
