Gilbert James Webberking

March 19, 1938 - February 23, 2024

Gilbert James Webberking, 85, passed away surrounded by his family and caregivers on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Anthology of Charlottesville where he resided for the last 2 years in the Memory Care Unit.

Gilbert was born on March 19, 1938 to Gilbert James Sr and Ruth Ida (Yates) Webberking in Rilton, Pennsylvania. Along with his brothers, Carl and Ron, he grew up in Keystone, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Sewickley Area High School in Herminie. He then attended night school at Carnegie Institute of Technology (known as “Carnegie Tech”) in Pittsburgh studying engineering. He served with the Army National Guard from April 1961 until October 1966.

Gilbert married the love of his life Ruth Ann Graham on January 27, 1962. Ruth Ann and Gilbert created a beautiful and loving life together. They had 2 children, Eric and Kristin, which they raised in Irwin, Pennsylvania, Newark, Delaware and then North East, Maryland.

Gilbert worked as a Mechanical Engineer for over 30 years with DuPont. He loved his job and was a key member on several projects that developed new medical testing devices. His career with DuPont allowed him to travel to Europe many times, which later blossomed into his love of traveling around the world. Gilbert, along with his wife, Ruth Ann, retired to Williamsburg, Virginia. He enjoyed home projects, landscaping, gourmet cooking, wine, traveling, and his BMW Roadster. But what was most important to him was his family. He was truly focused on creating a beautiful and loving home and life for his family, wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wife, Ruth Ann, who passed just 4 short months ago. They were married almost 62 years before her passing, The family is at peace knowing they are together again in Heaven.

Gilbert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son Eric J Webberking (Annette) of Fallston, MD; daughter Kristin A Chambers (John) of Palmyra, VA; grandchildren Jennifer Webberking; Adam Webberking( Carrie); Lesley Milligan (Andrew); Shannon Chase (Cory); and Michael Chambers (Katherine); and great grandchildren Madison, Riley, Caleb, Adalyn, and a soon to be born great-grandson.

He is also survived by his brothers Carl Webberking and Ronald Webberking (Marilyn); sisters-in-law Rebecca Graham (Jim Forbis) and Mona Yep (Richard); and nephews Brian Webberking, Kevin Webberking, and Dylan Yep.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers that provided him love, care, and support, his medical provider, hospice, and the staff at Anthology.

The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2024 from 10:30am – 11:00am at Teague Funeral Service, 2260 Ivy Rd., Charlottesville, VA 22903. A Celebration of Gilbert’s Life will follow at 11:00am in the Chapel.
