Glenn Thomas Palmer

Glenn Thomas Palmer, 82, of Warrenton Va. died on October 12, 2024 peacefully in his sleep at home, in his own bed as he stated was his wish many times. 

Born August 14, 1942 in Bethesda Maryland. He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, Charlie and Loraine Palmer of Maryland, his Grandparents who raised him, Thomas and Bessie Carper of Orange Va. his devoted companion Pearl Markley, and son Derrick Palmer.

Glenn is most recently known in the Warrenton area as the Birdhouse man. His passion was building birdhouses in his workshop behind the home. He is a retired bricklayer who started as an apprentice at age 15.  In his younger days, he was known as the Turtleman in the Manassas area for his love of turtling and fishing in local farm ponds. He was an avid poker player. Glenn was a member of the Manassas Moose Lodge and served as Governor for several years. He proudly served his country in the Army for 8 years. He loved bluegrass gospel till his last day. Everyone loved Glenn and he was very thankful to those who stopped by on the corner to see him. He was very sorry to have missed everyone over the last few months when he couldn’t make it out there.  

Glenn is survived by Daughters Darleen Sowers of Quinton, Va and Tammie and Brenda Hayes of City of North Myrtle, SC, Grandson Charles Cornell-Hayes of Hopkins SC, Daughter Kelly Palmer of Statesville Va. and Georgianna D. Hayes, Step- daughter Kathy Markley of Manassas Va, Cousins Virginia Larigey of Warrenton Va, Ellen Mallett of Elkton Va, Arthur Tanchak of Nokesville Va, Omajean Bogle of Marion Va, Shirley Borgenson of Edgewater Md, Raymond Hawkins, Ralph Hawkins, Lena Flanders and Jon Norris. Glenn had numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Fauquier County Fire and Rescue for responding with care and compassion, day and night. You have served him well when he needed it most. 

A Celebration of Life is planned for November 30, 2024, at The Warrenton Moose Lodge at 12pm – 2:30pm. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Fauquier County Fire and Rescue.
