Gloria McCrann
Gloria McCrann recently passed away peacefully at Brookdale Senior Living in Staunton, VA. She was 98 and born to Elizabeth (Bessie) and Harold Meyer.
Gloria is preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph McCrann (2002) with 55 years of marital bliss and her older sister Dolores Krumeich (2021). She was the devoted mother of her son Michael McCrann (Wendy). Also surviving is Beth Mellas (Gary) her faithful niece, many additional nieces and nephews, and her close neighbors Lynn and Mike Wagner, Thelma Ann Dunlow, Shirley and Bob Cason, and the entire Taliaferro Family who were Gloria’s second family.
After high school, Gloria became a legal secretary. Gloria married Joseph McCrann in 1947. Gloria and Joe lived in Kearny, NJ with her Mom, Bessie, and then her son, Michael. In 1971, the family of three moved to Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, NJ and Gloria became a real estate broker. After her husband ended his long commute from the Island and retired as a Kearny fire fighter, Gloria also retired. In 1977, they moved to south Florida for a few years, but they both missed the change of seasons. Gloria and Joseph relocated to the Shenandoah Valley in 1981, as they both fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains. After Joe’s death in 2002, Gloria enjoyed shopping, cross stitching, quilting, wreath making and many other crafts. She also was devoted to the weekly Masses at St. John’s Evangelist Church.
After Gloria’s stroke in 2007, Gloria lived at home with the assistance of caregivers for 15 years. The family is very thankful and feels blessed for all the dedicated caregivers: Karen Rae Bechdel, Sharon Bussard, Patricia (Patty) Denoncourt, Jenny DeTrinis, Lynn Simms, Johnna Wagner, and Nancy Waldron. Patty had been her main caregiver for 15 years and became her most loyal best friend. The family also wants to express sincere thanks to her friends at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesboro who made sure she was well taken care of when she attended Saturday night Mass: Helen Baska, Guy Cummings, and Easter Pitzer. Gloria spoke of your kindness and friendship often. The family would especially like to thank Cyndy Hanula for her dedication in bringing Holy Communion to her home, then to her new residence at Waynesboro Manor for two years, followed by six weeks at a rehab after breaking her hip and shoulder; and her last few weeks at Brookdale Senior Living in Staunton.
A graveside service was held in early September at the Riverview Cemetery located in Waynesboro officiated by Father Francis X. Musolooza of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Waynesboro and under the assistance of the McDow Funeral Home, Inc. in Waynesboro.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Preston Yancey Volunteer Fire Department or Waynesboro First Aid Squad.
