Harold Louis Ragland
Harold Louis Ragland, a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather, departed this life on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the age of 79. Harold's passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community he served so selflessly throughout his life.
Born on February 12, 1944, to the late Esmo B Ragland and Mary Lucy Ragland, Harold grew up surrounded by love and the values that shaped him into the remarkable man he became. His life was marked by a deep commitment to his family and community.
Harold's devotion to his wife, Maude Jackson Ragland, was unwavering and enduring. Their love story spanned an impressive 61 years, a testament to the bond they shared and the strength of their commitment to one another.
As a father, Harold was a source of guidance and support to his two children, Vanita R. Embry and Felton W. Ragland (Chiquita). He instilled in them values which they carry with them to this day.
As a grandfather, Harold delighted in the joy his three grandchildren brought into his life. Unique Braxton (Jonathan), Atravian Ragland (Lindsay), and Darkita B. Hawkins (Derek) were the lights of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them. His heart swelled with love and pride as he watched them grow and achieve.
Harold's legacy extends to his three great-grandchildren, Mason, Dallas, and Denver, whom he adored and cherished. Their laughter brought joy to his soul, and he embraced every opportunity to be present in their lives.
Throughout his life, Harold shared a close bond with his siblings, Janet, Albert, Raymond, Myrtle Hollins (James), Ruth Johnson, Esmo (Geraldine), and Buckie (Reva). Their connections were woven with love, support, and a shared history that brought them comfort and strength.
Harold's influence also reached far and wide, touching the lives of numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Janet Pitt and Arnold Crawford held a special place in his heart, and their friendship brought him much joy and companionship.
Professionally, Harold dedicated 39 years of his life to the University of Virginia, where he made lasting contributions and formed meaningful connections with colleagues and students. Additionally, he owned and operated All Seasons Lawn Service for approximately 30 years, showcasing his passion for landscaping and his desire to serve his community by meeting their outdoor needs.
Harold was a pillar of strength for his family. His guidance, love, and protection were unwavering, and he left an indelible mark on the lives he touched. He will be remembered for his warm smile, compassionate heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
As we mourn the loss of Harold Louis Ragland, we also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the profound impact he made. Though he may be physically gone, his spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those he loved and the lives he touched.
Harold’s favorite words whenever he left a message for someone were ‘Give me a call. OK, Gone’.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday August 7, 2023, at Preddy Funeral Home in Gordonsville with interment to follow in the family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Monday.
