James "Bo" Edward Clatterbuck
James Edward "Bo" Clatterbuck March 7, 2025 James Edward “Bo” Clatterbuck, 82, died peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on November 20, 1942 to the late Harvey Jackson Clatterbuck and Lula Dwyer Clatterbuck and was the third of eleven children. As the story goes, he was nicknamed “Jimbo” at an early age, however, when one of his younger siblings came along, he was unable to pronounce Jimbo and thus shortened it to “Bo,” a name that would follow him for the rest of his life. On August 8, 1964, he married Edith Earle Hawkins. They had three children and were married for fifty three years. After graduating from high school, Bo began his career with the Virginia Department of Transportation. For forty years, he worked in various capacities within VDOT, ultimately becoming a Transportation Operations Manager/Bridge Superintendent serving Orange and the surrounding counties. During his many years of service, he received various commendations for his dedication and service, including Certificates of Recognition for his contributions to the emergency operations during the flood of 1995 and the blizzard of 1996
Bo was an avid reader and many a western Louis L’Amour book could be found in our home. He was also proficient in math, a skill that greatly contributed to his success in bridge construction. Even as dementia claimed much of his memory over a fifteen year period, his math skills remained grossly intact and he continued to be able to solve basic problems when playing games.
For much of his life, Bo was a faithful and active member of Bethsaida United Methodist Church. He served on numerous committees and eventually became and served as a lay speaker. He was known for his collection of Disney ties and his pocket full of candy that he loved to offer to both the children and adults.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Clatterbuck Berrey (Bobby), sons, James “Todd” Clatterbuck (Sarah) and Beau Edward Clatterbuck (Jennifer); six grandchildren, Maggie Hooper (Kyle), John Berrey (Ivy), Josh Clatterbuck (Tayler), Sierra Haynes (Kevin), Jonah Clatterbuck and Noah Clatterbuck; eleven great-grandchildren, Jack, Luke, Anne, Grace and Ruth Hooper, Acrey Berrey, Cole and Charley Clatterbuck, Paige and Paxton James (PJ) Watson and Porter Haynes.
He is also survived by brothers, Alvin Clatterbuck (Jane), Charles Clatterbuck (Betty), John Clatterbuck, Roger Clatterbuck (Marcella), Harvey Clatterbuck, Jr. (Betty) and Ricky Clatterbuck and sisters, Linda Elkins (Larry), Lois Moore and Barbara Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Earle Hawkins Clatterbuck and his brother Freddie Clatterbuck.
