James "Jimmy " Wilson Brooks, Jr.

January 24, 1943 - May 13, 2024

It’s with a broken heart that James Wilson Brooks, Jr., age 81, a native of Charlottesville, passed away in his home, with his wife, Sherry, by his side, on May 13, 2024, in Albemarle County. He will be missed immensely by so many. Jimmy was born on January 24th, 1943, and is predeceased by his father, James Wilson Brooks, Sr. of Charlottesville, VA, his mother, Joyce G. Ashworth of Richmond, VA and by his daughter, Tracy Lynn Brooks of Charlottesville, VA. Jimmy attended Burnley-Moran Elementary school as a young boy and graduated from Rockhill Academy in Ivy, VA in 1963. Jimmy is survived by his wife of eleven years Sherry Dawn Forkum; they were married on March 13, 2017 in the City of Charlottesville; and her three daughters Natasha Lee Wheeler, Alisha Marie Coleman & her husband David Michael Coleman & Kayla Faye Sapin and her husband Jack Sapin, and Jimmy’s siblings Joan Parsons Mayo, Thomas Nolton Brooks, Joel Ashworth & Joyce Ashworth Evans and Grandchildren, Isabelle Grace Sauveur, Josephine Linnae Coleman and Twins Cecelia Anne Coleman & Sawyer Dean Coleman and we can’t forget Maggie Mae, they’re beloved dog.Jimmy was drafted in 1971 in the US Army and served his country during the Vietnam conflict; he was a proud veteran. While in the Army, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, the Army Commendations Medal, Good Conduct Medal (2d Award), Expert (Rifle), Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Service Stars and Joint Service Commendation Medal, to name a few. He returned to his birthplace and worked for the United States Postal Service, as a carrier where he retired after 30 years. He was a HUGE Football Fan, Go Hoos Go! Loved golf and was a long time member at Greene Hills Country Club in Stanardsville, VA. But most of all, Jimmy, my Husband, was a Wonderful Man, a Loving Husband, Kind and always had a smile on his face and everyone loved him~ Services will be held at Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Rd, Charlottesville, Virginia 22903. A private family viewing will take place at 11am on May 22nd and a public Chapel service will follow at 12 pm with Pastor Steve Netherly of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Barboursville, VA. Please join us at BJ’s Brewhouse at 2:30 to commence and celebrate this wonder man~ May 23rd at 11am, a service will also be held at the Culpeper National Cemetery, 501 East Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Sandy Martin officiating and blessing the ceremony. Jimmy’s ashes will then be placed in the columbarium to honor his Veteran dedication. And of course, the Hospice Team, you all were terrific, and I am so grateful for everything you have done for my Babes in the last week at home and just being there when I needed you.
