James Louis Stepp

James Louis Stepp, 69, gained his heavenly wings Monday night, October 30, 2023 at his home in Stanardsville, VA. He fought a hard battle with cancer with much grace and dignity, knowing that God was in control.

James was born July 8, 1954 in Rockingham County, VA to the late Raymond Henry Stepp and Gladys Marie Shifflett Stepp. Also preceding him in death are his siblings, Robert Harvey Stepp, Judith Ann Stepp Hensley, Violet Elaine Stepp Offenbacker and Reba Frances Stepp and a grandson Dustin Stepp.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Carol Conley, his children, Jennifer Stepp (Chris) of Elkton, VA, Jason Stepp (Deanna) of Shenandoah, VA, and James Matthew Stepp (Tiffany) of Elkton, VA and Ricky and Dale Conley of White Hall, VA. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and his siblings, Margaret Marie Rinaca, Kenneth Franklin Stepp, Dale Stepp Dean, Jewell Croft, Raymond Arthur Stepp, Polly Monger, Eva Florence Huffman, Martin Stepp and Lorin Morris. James is also survived by many other loving family members and friends.

James retired from Nielsen Builders Inc. of Harrisonburg in 2015. Upon retirement he and Carol enjoyed working in their garden and keeping their home and yard in pristine condition, or you could find him picking his banjo and guitar with his bluegrass friends. HE was a jack-of-all-trades and could make and fix most anything.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Mt. Moriah Church in White Hall, VA. (4492 Garth Road, Crozet, VA) with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Duane Johnson officiating.
