James Perry Lamar
James (Jim) Perry Lamar passed away on May 26, 2026. He was born in Albemarle, North Carolina on April 3, 2028 to the late William Lucius Lamar,Jr. and Lina Belle Soloman Lamar. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Hodges Lamar, and brothers, William Lucius Lamar III, William Moate Lamar, John O. Lamar II, Sam Lamar and sister, Mary Bylander.
After graduating from Albemarle High School, he served in the United States Navy where he received The World War 2 Victory Medal.
After completing his service in the Navy, Jim attended the Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy. Between his time in the Navy and college he met the love of his life, Marjorie Lee Hodges. They married August 11, 1951 and were together until her death on July 4, 2018.
Jim and Marjorie were the owners of Madison Drug Company, in Madison Virginia, where Jim spent almost his entire career as a pharmacist. He served in several offices of the Virginia Pharmacists Association including president. Jim was a Deacon and Trustee of Beth Car Baptist Church, Boy Scout Troop Leader, Director of Madison County Rescue Squad, and was a founder of Madison Free Clinic. He was a continuous member of the American Legion for over 60 years. Jim opened Greene Pharmacy , the first pharmacy in Greene County, in 1977 and purchased Meadowbrook Pharmacy in Charlottesville in 1983.
He is survived by his sister, Lina Belle Genge of Edgewater, FL, children: James Perry Lamar, Jr. (Jennifer) of Hollywood, MD, William Lewis Lamar (Jane)of Madison, and Daphne Jane Lamar Sturgill (Donnie)of Colorado Springs, CO, and 9 grandchildren: James Scott Lamar,(Deepti), Olivia Lamar, James and Shawn Payne, Kim Sturgill Looney (Scott) Christine Sturgill, Marjorie Lamar Wright (Adam), Morgan and Terence Lamar and 4 great grandchildren: Logan Olivia Lamar, Miles and Camina Looney, and Lainey Wright.
Jim’s legacy of service, dedication, and gentle spirit will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched within the Madison Community and beyond. May he always continue to re-fill us with his love.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Beth Car Baptist Church followed by a reception and visitation in the fellowship hall. Burial will be private at Cedar Hill Cemetery. The service will be recorded and live on zoom at Zoom – 613 232 914.
