John Lebas Trimmer
January 18, 2025 John LeBas Trimmer, born at Hare Forest in Orange County, Virginia, died peacefully at the age of 95 on January 18, 2025 at his home in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was the son of the late Sydney C. and Mildred C. Trimmer and was predeceased by his brothers, Sydney Cross Trimmer and William Stanard Trimmer, his sisters, Mildred Virginia (Trimmer) Mustard, Lydia Lois (Trimmer) Wentz, and Margaret May (Trimmer) Wittman, nieces, Margaret Neal (Trimmer) Smith, Mildred Cross (Mustard) Scholnick, Marian Dunn (Mustard) Rohne, and his lifelong friend and partner, Johnny Scott.
A graduate of Christchurch School (1945) and the University of Virginia (1950), John went on to serve his country as a Naval Aviator during the Korean War, primarily stationed in Okinawa and the South Pacific. After completing his military service in 1955, he joined Creole Petroleum Company in Caracas, Venezuela, as an economic analyst.
In 1963, John was invited to join the faculty and staff of the newly formed Blue Ridge School in St. George, Virginia. Serving as Business Manager and Associate Headmaster, he became a key figure in the school's development, helping it grow from a small institution into one recognized internationally. He retired from Blue Ridge in 1990, after nearly three decades of dedicated service. John was known for his positivity, curiosity, love of life, opera, theatre, entertaining, storytelling, and the joy he brought to those around him. He leaves behind loving nieces, Pamela Trimmer Lawson, Joan Mustard Munger, Helen Elizabeth Weed, Charlene Lesley Hornfeck, Irene Gail Trimmer-Unterman, nephews William Stanard Trimmer, Jr., Sidney Lee Trimmer, and a multitude of grand nieces and nephews. Also, left behind are many dear friends who will remember his warmth, humor, and kindness, especially, Todd Howard who assisted John to live as he wished for the last many years of life, and Scott Lyman, Eric Bryant, and Matt Baldwin who were especially dear friends.
A graveside service will be held at Beaumont, Somerset, 16451 Blue Ridge Turnpike, Gordonsville, Virginia at 1p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
