John Young Faulconer Sr.
Born 1-12-1938. Died 2-25-2025.
Son of the late Ray Donald and Margaret Young Faulconer.
He is survived by his children, John Y Jr. and wife Jennifer, Margaret Conway and wife Joanna, grandchildren Jenna, Judson, Mikala and husband Thor Strickland, sister-in-law Janet, brother-in-law Jim and wife Charlotte Smith, and a plethora of beloved nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his wife Dana Fitzhugh Smith, sister Peggy and husband Si Nelms, brother R Donald Jr., and esteemed dogs Dee and Bud Light.
The Consummate Gentleman, known by many nicknames; “Bones”, “Buzzard”, “Country”, “Yaya”, he graduated from Orange County High School, class of ‘57, Woodberry Forest School, class of ‘58, Randolph-Macon College, class of ‘65 member of Phi Kappa Sigma, and served in the United States Air Force.
He was the owner and operator of Lafayette Farm Polled Hereford, Orange Sportsman Shop, Faulconer Hardware, and F+R Equipment in Orange,VA.
Yaya accomplished his goal of living life to its fullest: morning coffee with friends, a round of golf, grouse hunting, bluegrass at Salvagewrights, skeet shooting with his grandson and roommates, the Montpelier Hunt Races, a good bourbon and cigar, a cheap bourbon and cigar, breakfast at the livestock market, baseball, hugging and kissing beautiful women, dancing, steamed crabs, oysters, but hated chitlins’, bush hogging, old fashioneds, solving the world’s problems with his think tanks, a hand of solitaire, dinner with family and friends, a good nap he swore he never took, his birthday celebrations, and most of all, watching the sunset from the front porch over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to The American Chestnut Foundation, OCHS Scholarship Fund, or a charity of your choosing. There will be a celebration for The Legend at a future date.
