Johnny Carlton Wharton, Sr.

Johnny Carlton Wharton, Sr., 46 of Culpeper, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at his home. He was born on February 24, 1977 to the late Michael William Wharton, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Wharton; stepmother Joyce Wharton; paternal grandparents, Otis and Betty Wharton; maternal grandparents, Herbert and Mildred Yancey; great-grandmother, Vernie Yancey.

Johnny loved his family and friends. He loved to laugh and joke. He was always the one who you could talk to about anything. He never met a stranger. Johnny did tree work most of his life. He loved to play slots and his video games. He went through a lot of phones and controllers because he said they didn’t work right. He struggled for over 20 years on this earth with his health. Now he is in the arms of Jesus and his family.

He is survived by his mother, Carol Yancey Knighting of Alexandria; son, Johnny Carlton Wharton, Jr. of Alaska; daughter, Jessica Lemen of Alaska; granddaughter, Marlowe Delainey Wharton; brothers, Michael W. Wharton, Jr. and wife Missy of Luray, Michael D. Wharton of Culpeper, Tony Wharton of Fredericksburg; sisters, Georgia Yancey of Alexandria, Betty Foster and husband Wayne of Stanley, and Stacy Aylor of Culpeper.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
