Jonathan "Johnny" Wayne Pleasants
Jonathan (Johnny) Wayne Pleasants, 52, of Atlanta, GA departed this life on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at UVA Medical Center. Johnny fought a painful battle with Stage 4 Metastatic colon cancer spread to the liver.
Johnny was born on December 5, 1972 in Charlottesville, VA to Douglas Wayne Pleasants and Mary Maupin Pleasants.
Johnny has been preceded in death by his father Douglas Wayne Pleasants. Johnny was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Marcus and Sadie Pleasants of Charlottesville, VA. Johnny was also proceeded in death by his maternal grandparents Jack and Anna Florence Maupin of North Garden, VA.
Johnny grew up in Charlottesville VA. graduating from Western Albemarle High School in 1990. Johnny went on to PVCC and received an Associate's Degree in Business in 1992.
Johnny then continued his education at UVA McIntire School of Commerce and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Management in 1995. Johnny received his Master's Degree from Georgia State University in 2004 in Finance.
Johnny lived in Atlanta Georgia for 25 years and worked in retail management the entire time he was there. Johnny's employers loved him. Johnny was so much like his father's side of the family. The Pleasants have always been very professional and responsible in their work. Johnny was very much a Pleasants.
Growing up in Charlottesville, Johnny especially loved bowling and skiing. Johnny was an accomplished bowler at Kegler's. While bowling at Kegler's, Johnny bowled a perfect game of 300 and received a ring. Johnny was a young bowler but was respected by bowlers of all ages for his bowling skills and style. Johnny loved skiing at Wintergreen Ski Resort. Johnny was an advanced skier and loved the challenging slopes and ski jumps.
Johnny's lifelong passion was NFL Football. Johnny was a Las Vegas Raiders fan since he was 16 years old. In the history of the Las Vegas Raiders franchise, the Oakland Raiders and Los Angeles Raiders Johnny remained their number one loyal fan. Johnny knew NFL football so well he knew the names of all the players on all the teams and he knew their coaches’ names.
Every season Johnny participated in several fantasy football leagues. Johnny won money from at least one of his fantasy football leagues each season.
Johnny was such an easy child to raise. I never remember teaching Johnny his ABC's. I never remember teaching Johnny the color of crayons. By the time Johnny was 18 months old he was completely potty trained and could say his ABC's and knew every color in his crayon box. Johnny never went through the terrible twos. The time with Johnny went much too fast.
Johnny leaves to cherish his memory his mother Mary Maupin Pleasants. Johnny also leaves his aunts Brenda Watkins (Lan) of Esmont, VA and Betty Campbell of North Garden, VA and Gladie Pleasants of Scottsville, VA. Johnny is also survived by many close relatives and friends and by a very close friend Ronnie Poindexter. Left also to cherish Johnny's memory are two uncles. Robert (Pat) Pleasants of Crozet, VA, and Reverend Danny S Maupin (Lorrie) of Callao, VA.
Growing up as an only child, Johnny was blessed to have his uncle Danny, his cousin Tinsley and good friend WC Stephens to share his childhood with. Johnny. Danny, Tinsley and WC were as close as brothers and shared many good times and memories together.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am - 12:00pm on Friday, January 31, 2025 at Teague Funeral Service, 2260 Ivy Road Charlottesville VA 22903. A funeral service will immediately follow to be officiated by Danny Maupin. Johnny will then travel to Holly Memorial Garden to be laid to rest.
