Joseph Calabretta
Joseph Calabretta Jr., 73, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, at his home in Scottsville, Virginia. Born on March 25, 1952, in Astoria, New York, Joe lived a life marked by devotion to his family and friends, and a deep love for music and the outdoors.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife Debra Calabretta, daughter Christina Calabretta Barksdale, son Joey Calabretta, granddaughter Michelle Barksdale, grandson Anthony Schneller, and sister Marilyn Grace. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph S. Calabretta, and mother, Mary Calabretta.
Anyone who knew Joe knew of his passion for music, particularly The Beatles, and his enthusiasm for football. As a devoted New York Giants fan, he enjoyed many games on TV. He also cherished, and often spoke of, the memories he made at Mater Christi High School in Astoria, New York.
Throughout his life, Joe found happiness in the simple pleasures—spending time with family, playing his guitar, listening to and creating music, and fishing. These passions reflected his gentle spirit and appreciation for meaningful moments.
Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. As we mourn this great loss, we also remember the joy and love that Joe brought into our lives. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to honor Joe’s life will be held on April 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Teague Funeral Service, located at 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
