Joyce Elizabeth Pugh Darnell

Joyce Elizabeth Pugh Darnell 91 of Barboursville passed away April 14, 2024 at her residence. She was born July 3, 1932 in Richmond to the late Harmon Maxwell Pugh Sr. and Edythe Simms Payne Pugh.

Joyce enjoyed her longtime bookkeeping career with numerous livestock markets. Singing was her passion and she sang with Sweet Adeline Skyline Harmony Chorus, Senior Singers and Gordonsville Baptist Church. She also volunteered at the Martha Jefferson Hospital for many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Marsha Brushwood Kemp and husband James of King William, Terry Brushwood Shaffer and husband John of Barboursville, son, Steve Ellis Brushwood and wife Pam of Gordonsville; six grandchildren, Ryan M. Brushwood and wife, Nikki Atkins of Louisa, Sean P. Brushwood and wife Ashley of Culpeper, Julie A. Marcum and husband Tony of King William, Daniel W. Kemp and wife Jennifer of Richmond, John Michael Shaffer and wife Bethany of Southport, NC., Justin E. Shaffer and wife Callie of Rocky Mt., VA and ten great Grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the Gordonsville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 20-, 2024 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the church. A private interment will be held in Maplewood Cemetery.
