Justin Makai Barbour

Justin Makai Barbour, 28, of Crozet, passed away on Monday, February 17, 2025.

Native to Crozet, Virginia, Justin was born on November 16, 1996 to Freda N. Barbour and Robert Lee Walker III.

Justin grew up playing sports such as baseball, basketball, and football. He attended school in Crozet and was intelligent beyond words. He took pride in his education and continued after high school by attending James Madison University. Justin graduated from JMU in 2020 with a degree in psychology. Throughout his school career, Justin was adored by all of his teachers. Justin was well known around the Crozet community, he was a friendly person to all. Though, he went to JMU, Justin was a huge UVA fan. He spent a lot of his time working out. He had a big passion for fitness- walking around Crozet park either by himself or with his dog Teddy or riding his bike. Justin enjoyed fishing and playing recreational basketball. Justin was described as a “gentle giant”, as he was kind and would do anything for you. Justin made sure everyone was included and that no one was bullied. He has a smile that could light up any room and a heart so pure.

Justin was preceded in death by his Great Grandmother Martha Barbour, Great Grandfather Henry Thornton, Grandmother Mary Thornton, and adored Cousin Zola-Rain Barbour, and Dog Cain.

Justin is survived by his devoted Mother, Freda N. Barbour; loving Sister, Tekaiya Barbour; Father, Robert Lee Walker III (Rachel); Sisters Alexis Walker and Hailey Walker; Grandmother, Debbie Barbour; Aunt, Brittney Barbour; Cousin, Zaelynn Barbour; Grandfather Dwight Smith (Dorothea); Grandfather Robert Lee Walker Jr.; Great Grandmother Susan Thornton; Uncles DT Smith and Marcus Walker; Aunts Celeste Smith and Natalie Townsend; a host of great uncles, great aunts, cousins, and a lifelong friend Ryan Jones.

A visitation for Justin will be held Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Teague Funeral Service. A funeral service will occur Monday, March 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Crozet Baptist Church, 5804 St George Ave, Crozet, VA 22932. An interment will occur Monday, March 3, 2025 at Piedmont Baptist Church, 596 Half Mile Branch Rd, Crozet, VA 22932.
