Karen Johnson Weaver

Karen Johnson Weaver, 62, of Orange, VA, passed away on March 25, 2024, at University of Virginia Hospital after a stoic battle with cancer. She was born on June 6, 1961, in Charlottesville, VA, to Bobby Lee Johnson and the late Phyllis Waugh Johnson.

She is survived by her father, Bobby Lee Johnson of Louisa, VA; husband, James David “Jim” Weaver of Orange, VA; two sons, Brad Weaver and Hunter Weaver both of Richmond, VA; mother-in-law, Jo-Anne Bradford Weaver of Bristol, VA; sister, Paige Johnson Carpenter and her husband Jim of Louisa, VA; a niece, Claire Carpenter Allen of Troy, VA; and two nephews, Austin Carpenter and Collin Carpenter of Harrisonburg, VA.

Karen attended Mary Washington before transferring and graduating from Virginia Polytechnical Institute. She went on to obtain a master’s degree from James Madison University.

She was a pillar to the educational community winning Lightfoot Elementary’s Teacher of the Year award for the 2010-2011 school year. Karen influenced the lives of many students at Green Springs Elementary, Louisa Elementary, Trevilians Elementary, Grymes Memorial School and Lightfoot Elementary over the course of her 37 years as an educator.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Karen’s care team including Dr. Elizabeth Gaughan, Dr. Johann Hsu, Dr. Einsley Janowski, Dr. Daniel Sheeran, Brittany Correia, Katie Gower, Susie Herndon, Courtney Covert, Mandy Clements, Jessica Harlow, Diana Dudley, and Kaye Campbell, along with the nurses, administrators, and staff of Dogwood Village.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 30 at Campground Farm, 3683 Valentine Mill Road Gordonsville, VA 22942 with Rev. Larry Lewis officiating.
