Kay Weaver Nichol (Mom, Nanny, Aunt Kay) 88 of Madison passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Autumn Care of Madison. She was born January 9, 1938, to the late Robert Leslie Weaver and Mildred Sidney Berry Weaver and wife of the late Edward Lee “Butch” Nichol. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Vee Tull and Marietta Branham.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda N. Aylor and husband, Bud; Paige N. Kelliher and husband, Vince; one sister, Evelyn Mae Weaver Lacy; four grandchildren, Alvin S. “Tres” Aylor (Chelsea), Bethanie K. Aylor, Anna N. Kelliher (Austin), Austin V. Kay graduated from Madison County High School in 1956 and continued her education at the Jefferson School of Commerce. In December of that year, she married “Butch” and they enjoyed many years together until his passing in November 2022.

She worked as the secretary to the Commissioner of Revenue for Madison for eight years before she was appointed to Commissioner of Revenue in 1970. She was the first woman to hold a constitutional office in the county, a role which she served the public faithfully until December 1999.

As great as she was a public servant, she was an even better person. Known to many as “Mrs. Kay” she was an excellent golfer (winning the women's club championship at Greene Hills Country Club in 1979), a talented gardener, an avid card player and member of various bridge clubs. She was also a master seamstress (her last project being the alteration of her grandson's fiancés vintage wedding dress done this past October). She was a staple at Rapidan Baptist Church, where she frequently prepared beautiful flower arrangements for the altar. Also, Charter member of the Madison Women’s Club.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Piedmont, especially her nurse Cleeshai Milam, all the CNA’s and nurses at Autumn Care and her special caregiver Lucie Stroble. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Hospice of the Piedmont (675 Peter Jefferson Parkway Suite 300, Charlottesville VA 22911) or Rapidan Baptist Church (PO Box 211, Wolftown, VA 22748).
