Kerry Melvin King
Kerry "Tooty" Melvin king of Orange, Virginia, departed this life on, Feb. 3, 2024, at his home located in Orange, Va. He was born on April 10, 1963, to the late Issac and Mary King in Charlottesville Va., He was preceded in death by his son Adrian "AJ",' daughter Nicole, brother Joseph Humes, and sister Princessilla "Annette" Tyler.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 20 years, Essie Mae King; 3 sons Aaron Brown (Brittany), Diyell Humphrey (Kecia), Tyrell Humphrey (Carolina), one daughter Shavanna Williams (James); three brothers; David King, Rueben King (Joyce), and Willie King (Cassandra);2 sisters, Betty Jackson (Russell), Katherine Fauntleroy, (Arthur); 18 grandchildren, Ahalaya, Adriana, Trinity, Avant, Diyon, Amaya, Isaiah, Dedriana, Paris, Carter, DayShawnna, Mar'Kus, Shalaya, De'arra, Mateo, Catalea, Derrick, and Alexis; and 2 great-grandchildren, Azahan Humes, Kahlanii Butler. He is also survived by one special great niece and nephew; Neve and O'Siah King; best friend/brother; Aubrey Lamb; 2 god daughters, lva Hawkins and Georgia Lamb; and one godson, Timothy Lamb. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Kerry worked at Ross Petroleum as a mechanic for five years. Then he worked at MPS for an additional 20 years until he retired to do what he loved, which was being a mechanic. He loved being around children and loved his grandchildren as well. He may not have been a football fanatic but when he watched he enjoyed following the Pittsburgh Steelers, despite his wife being a diehard 49ers fan. "Root for the winning team was his motto".
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024. At 12:00 Noon at the Preddy Funeral Chapel in Orange with Pastor John Tyler officiating. Interment will be held at the Westview Cemetery, Orange. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral service. Preddy Funeral Home is assisting the family.
