Lawrence Jacob Uberte

October 12, 1946 - June 5, 2025

Lawrence Jacob Uberte Lawrence Jacob Uberte, né Larrie Jay Humbert, 78, of Madison County, Virginia, returned to God on June 5, 2025 under hospice care at Culpeper Hospital. 
Larrie was born in Scobey, Montana on October 12, 1946 to Charles and Lenora Humbert, one of 6 children. After getting degrees in biology and chemistry, he returned to farm and ranch near Scobey, marrying Pamela Ann Burgett and raising 5 children there. In 1986, he began studies to become a Lutheran minister at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Iowa where he received his Masters degree in Divinity. He was pastor of Mt.Nebo (Madison) and Good Shepherd (Orange) Lutheran Churches from 1990-1996. He departed the ministry in pursuit of a life more closely aligned with his spiritual principles. In 1998, he married Sylvia Suzanne Rhodes McDonalds, caring dearly for her during the final years of her life. In 2007, he married Cynthia Diane Rhodes Davis. 

Using his talents in his later life, he designed kitchens with several companies, managed the farm at Maple Glen in Graves Mill, VA, worked seasonally on farms in MT and ND, and became the farm placement specialist for Virginia Employment Commission, finding workers for Virginia farms, orchards, and vineyards. He loved his family and God. 

Larrie is preceded in heaven by his parents, sister Karen, brothers Lloyd and Lee, son Nathaniel, and wives Pamela and Suzanne. 

He is survived on earth by wife Diane of Madison; sisters Linda (husband Jerry) of Whitehorse, Yukon Territory and Garnet (husband Daryl) of Peerless, MT; sister-in-law Penny of Bismarck; brother-in-law Ken of Helena; chosen brother Khalid of Morocco; children Kristen of Juneau, AK, Samuel of Roanoke, VA, Jennifer of Justin, TX, and Stephen of Burleson, TX, daughter-in-law Erin of Burleson; and step-daughters Arielle (husband Lee) and Adrianna (husband Cole). His many grandchildren whom he loved very much include Joshua, Ashley, Desmond, August, Charles, Isaiah, Killian, Amelie, Sage, Rowan, Olivia, Ben, and Bryce. 

An open house gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life among us will be held on August 2, at Maple Glen Farm in Graves Mill from 2:00-4:00.
