Lethia Jones Nuckols
Lethia Jones Nuckols, March 23, 1948 - June 25, 2024, age 76, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends after a graceful battle with cancer. She was the oldest child of Thomas and Violet Jones and was preceded in death by her parents.She worked for over two decades for her father as a bookkeeper at Jones Sunoco and then Jones Citgo. When her father retired, she proudly continued the family business and opened Jones U-Haul where she worked along side her children. Lethia also loved supporting her children so when her daughter began competing in beauty pageants, she opened the Unique Boutique for a few years. Once she retired from her own businesses, she joined her husband in their family business, Nuckols Insurance Agency, where she was loved by all of their clients.Before her health started to decline, she loved traveling to other countries or any place in the United States. She got to see many beautiful destinations over the course of her life either through personal travel or trips won through the insurance agency. In their younger years, she was a staple in the stands at her husband’s softball games where he played for the Rockcreek Rowdies for 30 years. She looked forward to luncheons with her siblings. She loved attending gospel concerts or annual church fellowship meetings to hear all the talented saints sing old hymns.Lethia had a huge heart and was a giver; never expecting anything in return. She often sacrificed her own needs to give to the ones closest to her. She was a talented decorator and loved shopping for bargains. She was a thoughtful gift giver and looked forward to the holidays and sharing in the joy of watching her loved ones open their gifts.She was an incredible wife, amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Lethia is survived by her husband, Wayne Nuckols, of the home; son, Jeff Shifflett, of Staunton, VA; daughter Renee (Jeromy) Landress, of Blanchard, OK; a special God-son, Kalib Chittum, of Goshen, VA; granddaughter Haley (Logan) Gaither, of Cunningham, KY; grandson, Dylan Landress, of Blanchard, OK; grandson, Cooper Shifflett, of Stanardsville, VA; brother, David Jones of Stanardsville, VA, Linda (Junior) Goode of Charlottesville, VA; brother, Charles Jones, of Charlottesville, VA and Cecelia (Mike) Gibson of Stanardsville, VA.When you told her you loved her, she would respond, “I love you more!” These were the last words she spoke to us the morning she passed.
