August 30, 1963 - August 11, 2023

Mariah "Molly" Carter Rogers, 59, of Nelson County, Virginia, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, August 11, 2023. Mariah began in elementary and graduated St. Anne's-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Virginia. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia where she studied pharmaceutical technology and later became a pharmacy technician both in Richmond and in Nelson County. Mariah then shifted her vocational focus to hospitality and has been a hostess and server at Wintergreen Resort and other local wineries and restaurants. Mariah loved meeting people, and loved making those she served feel like friends and family.

Her favorite job was also her most recent, Salesperson for the Merchandise Shop at Three Notch'd Brewing Company in Nellysford. Mariah served in that position until the day of her death.

Mariah was passionate about animals and loved horseback riding. As a young girl, she spent several summers at Camp Lachlan where she became proficient at riding. As a teen, she became a counselor at Camp Holiday Trails where she helped train young campers to ride. Her love for animals continued and one of Mariah's greatest joys was having pets that she rescued from unhappy situations. She always had at least one dog, usually a cat or two, as well as a back porch sanctuary for hummingbirds. Her other interests included gardening, cooking, baking and music. She and her husband, Mark, loved live music and regularly attended Bluegrass and other music festivals in Virginia and beyond.

Preceded in death by her parents, Orbin and Adeline ("Lynne") Carter, Mariah is survived by her loving husband, Mark Clifton Rogers; her brothers, David Carter, Douglas (Beth) Carter; and her sisters, Blair Carter (Douglas Crowell) and Jenny Mathews (Rick Bayless) and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 20 at Rockfish Presbyterian Church, 5016 Rockfish Valley Hwy, Nellysford, VA 22958.
